3.2.1.3
The best locks in ensuring security are those fitted
with dead bolts since they are placed into the steel
frame on the inside surface of the door. They derive
the name dead from the fact that they cannot be pried
open. Some common types of these include the mortise
locks, combination locks, rim locks, cylindrical
locks, electric locks and padlocks. Padlocks are very
popular since they are cheaper in terms of pricing and
are not complicated in handling, they require simple
skills to handle.
The mortise types have a mechanism that is cut into
the door while the door latch is screwed on the
locking system. They are normally composed of both the
dead and spring bolts or either of them. To achieve
maximum door security, a dead model that is one inch
long is recommended.
